E-Sports and the rise of the professional gamer

By admin | Posted in Gaming | No Comments

E-sports or Electronic Sports are to video gamers as the Olympics are to professional athletes. The blur lies in what is actually determines a sport. One involves a certain level of fitness, whereas the other doesn’t but requires dexterity and hand-to-eye co-ordination, and laser like reflexes.

The rise of professional level gamer probably came about with the rise in competitive online gaming environments such as those seen in the early Quake days. Jonathan Wendell is probably the best known professional gamer, who at any one sitting can ‘train’ for as much as 12 hours. Most of the moves they practice become second nature in games such as Unreal Tournament, with fast twitch maneuvers and guess shots a pro gamer will often illicit cries of “cheater”.

The professional leagues and manufacturer sponsorship has paid dividends for Jonathan Wendell as he now has his own brand aptly named Fata1ty. To find out more about professional gaming you can see his site here: http://www.fatal1ty.com/ and learn more.
