Microsoft launches small business phone system

By admin | Posted in Hardware | No Comments

Microsoft have recently launched a superb looking phone system called Response Point for small and medium businesses. Using both VOIP and regular lines Response Point can reduce call costs as many users of popular VOIP provider Skype already know, but Skype by itself doesn’t offer the professionalism of a proper phone system for business. This might change with the release of Microsoft’s Response System.

“Response Point helps deliver value to small-business telephony through the power of software,” said Xuedong Huang, Microsoft’s general manager for Response Point. “Our team has worked hand in hand with small-business customers to deliver a new and fundamentally better user experience.”

Microsoft aims to rollout the phone system via initially 3 manufacturers: D-Link, Quanta and Aastra, pricing is around $3000 (£1500) or $1500 (£750) for a setup with 4 phones, including all hardware. D Link’s phone system is very easy to setup, just connect it to your LAN and it will auto-detect it, and guide you through the installation wizard, which also makes adding new users very easy. The phone has a range of business like phone features including all voice-activated Response Point commands, call holding with music and Auto-attendant ( which is a receptionist of some sorts).

Calls can be routed easily to other users using such voice commands as “Sales”, and if you are busy you can have voicemail routed to your Windows contact manager.
