GeForce 9800 GX2
By admin | Posted in Hardware | No CommentsSome info on NVIDIA’s yet-to-be released 9800 graphics card
Although final specs are still guarded in secrecy, some things at least according to Hardocp are beginning to come to light:
Like the previously exciting but somewhat flawed 7950Gx2 the new high-end Nvdia graphics card will feature:
1GB Frame Buffer
Two PCBs
Two 65nm GPUs Total
256 Stream Processors Total
In this sense you can have a Quad system. Over the 8800 cards you are looking at a die-shrink to 65nm, more memory, and a bigger frame buffer. No more details are yet available. What we want to know is whether it will play Oblivion on max detail and maintain 60fps minimum! It is one thing to innovate, but end-users aren’t bothered about innovation as such, they are more focussed on the application. In other words I don’t want a screw driver; I want a screw in my wall. If another company was to find an easier way to put that screw in my wall I would most likely switch. ATI if it wants to catch up it should focus on the application: Games. Make your cards hit targets in games. Nothing else really matters.
