Gaming Google the corporate way

But they don’t get slapped…

I think Google has slapped a penalty before on some sites, for buying links, but it seems they are back and in full swing. I’ve been watching a couple of websites now, for a competitive key term “car insurance”. If you look here you can see all the big players all battling to get on the first page for this term. Now let’s take a look at how they do it.

Contender: Asda

SEO company: Unknown.

Let’s look at their backlinks

Just a brief look shows whoever is their SEO, is buying blog posts for the key term, this is not so bad in my opinion, but look at the Michigan Daily site and examine the page source, and search for “asda”, you can clearly see hidden links, that do not show on the page.

The thing what Google the pea brain can’t grasp, is no matter what they do, companies will always try to get on the first page. In my experience you don’t get to the first page of the charity off others linking to your site.

Last I heard, Asda were using a certain G########t as their SEO Company (in fact the majority of links in that section are to G#######t clients)
I don’t think ther are many benefits left from being on Michigan Daily - they had their visible PageRank reduced to 5 from 8 about a week ago.
