Virtual Career Fairs and Social Networking sites.
By admin | Posted in Tech Jobs | 1 Comment so farPopular sites such as Facebook, Viadeo and LinkedIn offer the user the possibility of integrating within a network of similar minded individuals in order to improve ones career prospects. Such sites offer the user to add a profile and network themselves to others. Begin by making a profile putting in as much detail as you can about yourself and your education and skills. These sites are often visited by larger recruiters and companies alike.
Recent advancements are career fairs inside virtual environments such as Second Life. Britain recently held a career fair inside this virtual world with companies such as Yell, KPMG and RBS all being involved. The basic premise was that you turn up within the virtual world as an avatar (computer character) dressed in a suit or appropriate attire (although some turned up dressed as dragons) and converse with the recruiters, ask information and tell them about yourself.
It can be beneficial for the job searcher as attending job fairs can be difficult, if time or other work commitments get in the way. Isabelle Hung from Yell, tells us that “It makes no difference to us what your avatar looks like - it’s the communication that counts.”
It all sounds a bit bizare to us..
