Face recognition and ATMs / Cash machines

ATMs. Place where you withdraw your monthly salary and spend it in a weekend. Technology is all about improving our lives, so how can banks and technologists improve user experience with ATMs? One such way is facial recogntion for security for example. Your card gets stolen and the crook has your pin, but the face matching software doesn’t match so it rejects any transaction and alerts the issuing bank. Face recognition is already used in some airports to prevent criminals or terrorists leaving a country or entering a new one. Technology however needs to be about functionality, and improving user experience.

What will the future bring for advanced IT systems used in ATM machines? Marketers would be looking at not just face recognition for security, but for improving services, so if someone was frowning at a certain question, the question on the machine might be revised and worded differently. Or Marketers could use this data of people frowning and compare it to people who didn’t frown or who seemed pleased; this would all be done by analysing facial muscles and movement.

The uses of this kind of technology are vast. Myself, I can’t wait for Chip and Pin to expire and be replaced with thumbprint tech.
