2015 Christmas day…

And eight-year old Laura is unwrapping her latest gadget phone, “It’s an Adda!” she proclaims with enthusiasm, ripping off the wrapping paper and opening the packaging to reveal a slim wrist band looking device, to which she quickly wraps around her wrist, and then begins to explore its range of features whilst Grandad sleeps on the couch. Somewhat phone, somewhat mp6 player somewhat mobile device. Her parents are relieved as they are still the height of style for youngsters.

This kind of scenario is what mobile phone and other crystal ball gazers are currently looking at in 7 years time. CPU power what you normally have in any powerful desktop today will be possible on very small devices the size of wristwatches in the future. Also the merging of fashion and technology will bring devices that not only look stylish but function to suit that person’s lifestyle: blood pressure monitors, sat nav, stock reports, bmi index, on-demand downloads of songs from your favourite artist etc.

More possibilities include better voice recognition, requiring us to type far less, Minority Report type hologram projections might even arrive with virtual keyboards, and full screen wall projections. More seamless environmental integration will also arrive in the form of links to things like Police, Information and other on-demand services as you move between areas you could theoretically be presented with those areas latest concert showings or restaurant offers.
