Firefox has doubled its popularity
By admin | Posted in Tech News | No CommentsFirefox has doubled its popularity…
Thirteen months after the official launch of Firefox 2.0 the number of users preferring this alternative browser has increased to about 125 million.
It is calculated by using different analyzing tools. One of them is Application Update Service (AUS) that records all requests received by Firefox for updating the browser to the latest version and all extensions. John Lilly operations manager underlines this tool as being very efficient in that the biggest part of Firefox customers group always update to the latest versions.

The number of daily received requests by Firefox update server is directly proportional to the number of all users. In the middle of November 2007 AUS reported 42 million customers had requested updates and by the end of same month – 48 million. According to popular method for estimation of visitor numbers this count should multiply by 3.
A comparison of this calculation to the total number of Internet users shows that Firefox is used by about 10% of all computers connected to the World Web. In the same time Firefox`s market share based on number of visited sites is about 15%. That means its users are 60% more active than Internet Explorer`s users.
What do we like about Firefox vs. Internet explorer? Well a bunch of things: One is the fact there are literally tons of add-ons one can use, this is especially good if you are a webmaster or keen SEO optimiser, there are down sides to this, as I have noticed with the Compete plug-in, which is simply useless – it always crashes the browser. But simple things like being able to right click and ‘view image’ is something Microsoft has never added also the fact that IE 7 seemed to crash a lot more on average. There are some things which it still hasn’t addressed these are background images, sometimes do no load or load funny.
